You've probably heard the phrase before—fear and greed drive the stock market. It’s an old saying in finance, one made famous by Warren Buffett: "Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." It’s a simple concept—investors chase gains when the market is booming (greed) and panic when things go south (fear).
The concept itself, however, predates Buffett and has been used for decades in economics and behavioral finance. The Greed and Fear Index, for example, is a measure used to assess investor sentiment in stock markets. Legendary investor John Templeton and financial analysts like Benjamin Graham also emphasized the impact of these emotions on market cycles.
Beyond finance, the analogy has been applied to politics, media, and social control, showing how fear is used to manipulate people into submission, while greed drives those in power to amass more wealth and influence.
It’s time to turn the tables.
Greed: The MAGA Cash Grab
Let’s be real—Trump and his MAGA loyalists aren’t playing a deep political game. They’re playing a con—a long con of power, wealth, and control, and they’ve been getting away with it for years. It’s straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon—think of Daffy Duck, eyes bulging, screeching “MINE! MINE! MINE!” as he hoards everything in sight. That’s Trump. That’s his entire movement. And the only reason they keep winning is because no one has figured out how to slap the gold coins out of their hands.
FOR THOSE NOT FAMILIAR, DAFFY DUCK WAS A GREEDY, SCHEMING, AND OFTEN SELF-SABOTAGING CHARACTER WHOSE OBSESSION WITH HAVING IT ALL USUALLY LEFT HIM WITH NOTHING. YOU MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR BECAUSE MUCH OF THE CLASSIC CONTENT HAS BEEN QUIETLY REMOVED OR FADED FROM MAINSTREAM AVAILABILITY FOR VARIOUS REASONS THAT NO LONGER MADE HIM PALATABLE TO MODERN MEDIA STANDARDS.
But here’s where it stops being funny. Unlike Daffy, they don’t just hoard—they rig the system to make sure no one else ever gets a fair shot.
We have seen the the concept of self-enrichment reach a new level. We’re talking directing government contracts to personally-owned businesses, jacking up room rates for the Secret Service at his properties, selling everything from bibles to watches and now putting a “for sale” sign on our government with a crypocurrency that opens the door for corruption on a level unheard of by selling access to the highest levels of power to foreign governments.
We have seen a grift machine of unequalled propoertion. It's not just Trump—his entire circle is cashing in. Jared Kushner walked away with a $2 billion Saudi payday. MAGA politicians like Ted Cruz, Matt Gaetz, and Marjorie Taylor Greene rake in millions from donors, selling outrage and conspiracies instead of policies.
We have seen the emergence of an colossal kleptocracy and the grand corporate sellout. Politicians who pretend to be anti-elite, but their entire agenda is built on cutting taxes for billionaires, gutting regulations for their donors, bolstering policies that allow them to steal patents from small inventors and making sure regular people never get ahead. If you’re struggling while these people keep getting richer, that’s not an accident. That’s the plan.
Fear: The MAGA Playbook for Control
If greed is what keeps MAGA running, fear is what keeps their base in check.
Fear of immigrants. Fear of crime. Fear of “woke” companies. Fear of vaccines. Fear of losing power. Fear of literally anything that isn’t them.
But fear isn’t just about keeping the MAGA base in check—it’s about neutralizing opposition before it even starts.
MAGA doesn’t just want people afraid of an abstract enemy—they want you afraid of personal consequences for standing against them. Whether it’s fear of digital retaliation from extremists, fear of losing your job for opposing their policies, or fear of government resources being weaponized against dissenters, they’ve created an environment where silence feels like the only safe option. They have made it clear that they will use government power to punish opposition. Businesses that refuse to fall in line face threats of financial ruin. Political figures who step out of line suddenly find themselves targeted by tax audits, regulatory crackdowns, or legal witch hunts. The most heinous weapon they wield is the demonstrated willingness of their base to engage in political violence. From the attack on the Capitol to countless examples of threats and assaults on public officials, MAGA has cultivated a movement that wants its enemies afraid. They aren’t content with just winning—they want their opponents to fear for their safety.
Flipping the Script: Greed and Fear Should Work for Us, Not Against Us
Here’s the truth: We need to be greedy too.
Not greedy for money, not greedy for power. Greedy for the things that should belong to all of us.
They love to talk about “freedom,” but their version is a corporate-sponsored illusion. Real freedom means freedom from corporate monopolies, from a rigged economy, from the billionaires buying elections and politicians selling our futures. True freedom is not about protecting the wealth of the elite but about ensuring that the system works for everyone, not just those who can afford to buy influence.
We should demand an economy where hard work actually leads to success, not a system where the wealthy rig the game while the rest of us are stuck fighting over crumbs. Opportunity should not be reserved for those who inherit wealth or manipulate the system but should be available to anyone willing to contribute and innovate. The American Dream has been hijacked, turned into a lottery where only a select few ever get to win, while the rest are told to keep playing a game they were never meant to succeed in.
MAGA treats government like a profit machine for themselves. They exploit power not to serve the people, but to funnel money into their own pockets and the pockets of their donors. We need to be greedy for a government that actually serves the people, not corporate donors and political elites. A government should function as a safeguard against corruption, a protector of opportunity, and a defender of fairness—not a mechanism for enriching the few at the expense of the many.
And most importantly—we need to make them afraid.
For too long, they have escaped accountability for corruption, fraud, and outright destruction of our democracy, but they should wake up every day knowing that justice could finally catch up to them. Their entire movement relies on keeping the public misinformed, and once the illusion shatters, they lose everything. The end of their unchecked power is inevitable—when people stop fearing them, stop falling for their cons, and stop enabling their hoarding of influence, they become nothing.
They also understand the danger of pushing too far or at least they need to. We know that fear is something they know well. Senator Hawley revealed his true colors (hint: it rhymes with mellow) when he attempted to break the 100-yard dash record in dress shoes—fleeing from his own supporters. Imagine the consequences if this energy were driven by the opposition. The oligarchs recognize this threat, which is why many have offshore escape bunkers prepared for when things get bad. The real question is, how much wealth will we allow them to take with them? This may be a controversial stance, but I believe that those who oppose these policies should exercise their Second Amendment rights immediately—because without the means to resist, there is no resistance. Only fear.
The Bottom Line: Take What They Hoard
The far right version of fear and greed has poisoned this country for too long. They want us divided, scared, fighting each other while they sit back and collect wealth, power, and influence.
But we have every right to be greedy too. Greedy for fairness. Greedy for a system that isn’t rigged. Greedy for a future that belongs to us, not them.
The moment we stop fearing them, the moment we demand what they’ve taken, the moment we turn the tables and make them fear losing their grip—that’s the moment everything changes. To be clear, this is not a call to violence, but as one of Trump’s idols, Al Capone, once said - “You Can Get Much Further with a Kind Word and a Gun than with a Kind Word Alone.”
It’s not a question of if it will happen. It’s a question of when we decide we’ve had enough.
